oryt ladz. got 8v mk3 gti. oil light flashes when the revs have dropped right down to 1000-2000 RPM. it dont flash when im driving sensibly. but if i drive abit rough the light dont come on while the revs are high but it comes on when the revs drop down. for instance if i stop at the lights it would come on or if i drop it in neutral it would come on(even though it goes off after a minute or two. but when i start revvin over 3-4000 RPM it goes off. iv got plenty off oil. any ideas what it cud be?

It isnt an oil level light, its oil pressure, sounds like you gotta weak oil pump, obviously when you rev more, the pump spins quicker and gives more pressure, thats why it goes out. Get a new pump in before it f**ks you engine.

the filter could be clogged, the sump strainer too, or the oil pumps on its way out. A  lot of high mileage cars have low oil pressure at tickover.

oryt ladz..yesterday i was driving and this time the red light continued to flash but with a load beeping sound. it comes on everytime i rev up to about 3000rpm. today i changed the oil filer, oil pressure pump, oil pressure valve and also drained all the oil out and put new oil in. so i took it for a drive and light and beeping sound come again. i went and asked this mechanic who said even he dont know what it could be. do you think because i drove the car with the oil light flashing for about a month may have damaged the engine? what do you guys think. plz dont say the enginez f**kd. my dad says the engine bearings may have been damaged. what you all think?

Like both Vaughn and me said in another thread - engine fooked!

Unless its something stupid like a blocked oilway.
But as you were stupid enough to drive it for a month without doing anything then its a fair assumption that you have knackered all the bearings.
