Ive kitted out my Golf with a new TFT and DVD set but need to put a switch in so i can turn it all on and off.  Ive got put all the wireing in including a live to the section in the dash where the rear window screen demister button is.

What i want to do is get another switch the same from the scrappy and use it for my screen, does anyone know how to wire these switches up?  I looked at the current one and it has several wires going in when really i need a live in and live out

just use a meter to find a pair of contacts that close to a short circuit when the switch is in the ON position and open when its off, and use them. Ignore any others. A pair of pins that give a resistance value of a few tens of ohms will be the lamp contacts for the orange light. there are three sets of contacts, two are for the heated mirror feeds.

Cheers for the info, I had soemone telling me that it was a "Switchable Negative" switch and if it was wired up worng it would set on fire :S

Didnt think it was as hard as they said, cheers.

Even if it was a switched negative circuit - which it isnt (the earth return is on the rear window itself)  the switch can be removed and re-used for another item. Switched negs are when the power goes straight to the item (interior light for example) and then to a switch which completes the earth connection and it comes on. This is only used where wiring must be minimal as when feeding to the doors etc as only one wire to the switch is required (the other contact goes straight to the bodywork)

HOWEVER - The switch will work fine if all wires are cut and only two are used for the new appliance and none are connected anywhere else including exposed metal - BUT insulate all unused wires properly or you could get a problem!
