Stone chip protection film
« on: 22 March 2007, 10:08 »
Atfer a not so successful session with Halfords own stone chip film, I have decided to get the film professionally fitted on Monday, and will post pics if anyone is interested. I know Illyun has expressed an interest in the past. They are going to cover all the font bump, and first third or so of the bonnet and wings, plus all 4 lights at the front. Also going to get some strips on the door sill to prevent shoe inlicted damage.

My question at the moment is... Is it ok to put this stuff on Xenons given the heat output? Also, does the film interfere with the light patterns coming out of the units?

Thanks

Can't see why not.  We discussed previously the merits of beam benders on Xenons, and the genuine Audi ones for the B6 S4 simply stick onto the outer lens.  If it does start to yellow, just peel the bu&&er off!

I've gone for a temporary solution until my finances recover and put nasty Halfords stuff on my rear bumper which fitted very well - but very arkward to fit.  I have also do the door sides at the edges and the front bonnet which is covered by one of those autobra things anyway.  I am getting the front bumper  and wings done for £80 from VW using their stuff.  After a few months I will rip it all of - and get it replaced with the proper stuff professionally fitted.  But I would be quite interested to see how you get on wantmygti.

No worries Illyun, i'll post some pics monday if the weather holds out. Seems like they are going to town on it - they want the car a whole day!

It is a hefty outlay but i plan on keeping the car a good few years and things like a bonnet covered in chips really bug me. Others have said I could get a lot of it resprayed for £360 if I need to a few years down line but in my book there ain't no paint like factory paint, and I don't think £360 would go very far at all on a decent paint job.

And a respray would get chipped again.

This stuff (Paint shield) comes with a 4 year warranty so should last well.

Aye. It is a plastic film hence it protects against bird poop, all kinds of fallout, chipping, damage like scratching inflicted when washing, salt, grime, bugs etc etc (but only the areas covered by the film obviously)
