New to forum, lots of questions
« on: 17 March 2007, 08:44 »
Hello

I have joined the forum as I have just inherited my mothers Golf cabriolet (she has just bought a new one) so lucky her and indeed lucky me.

It is a 1994 M reg 2.0 Avantgarde with 85K miles on it. Mother has always serviced it regularly but it is nevertheless pretty sorry at the moment - something that I aim to fix! I only picked it up last night so I have not had a chance to go over it properly but I thought that I would start the ball rolling anyway and ask for some advice.

At the very least it needs new dampers and probably springs, new suspension bushings,  new clutch, new exhaust, probably new wheel bearings, there is also a slight squeal from the engine bay (water pump?), a slight smell of fuel (fuel leak?), and a squeak from the rear when I release the brake pedal.

I would probably be happy to upgrade some of the bits to improve the car but I don't want to go overboard and I need to keep the costs down. I would therefore be grateful for advice on what parts to use, parts suppliers, prices, other potential problems and things to check, where the fuel leak could be (if it is a known problem) and anything else you can think of that would be useful. I would also welcome any recommendations for good specialists in Devon or Somerset.

I will do most of the work myself but I am used to working on Range Rovers that I use for expeditions, so your advice and guidance will be much appreciated.

Thanks to all

Richard
