LED lights (I just bought a Mk5 GT TDI 2.0 3dr black w/Grand Prix 17in wheels)

I am possitive the indicators were LEDs, you can tell LEDs due to their on/off flashing is immediate unlike conventional bulbs that fade in and out

No Golf Mk5 has rear LEDs.  The Golf Plus, and the Jetta and Passat do have LEDs.

The reason the Golf rear lights are so impressive, is that they use a 6watt mini-halogen, and "overpower" it, via ECU and CAN-BUS control.  They do look quite different to conventional tungsten bulbs.

Furthermore, it uses H1 halogen bulbs, which are hugely poorer than H7s.
