which oil

my car is 1700 miles away from its 50k service i got a warnign sayign check oil today i was thinkign it just needs topping up

but i cannot remember which oil it is i think its 5w 40  its a 1.9tdi 100 02 plate

i could just top it up and then click the reset button on the bonnet hatch and it shoudl knock the light off as i did that before till i do the service and also do u know if the 50k service is just a oil change service.

From memory it is 5W 40 oil but it does need to be to VW 505.01 spec. Halfords sell litre tubs for around £12 or you can get 5 litres from the main dealer for around £37.

i thought all the 10K were full service as in oil & filters, check pads etc 60K is the cam belt which is one of the costly ones.

isn't the oil light the indicator on some models that the service is due?

I have checked my own service record, the 50,000 mile service is just the oil and filter change so should not be too bad.
