Cylinder head porting
« on: 28 January 2004, 22:52 »
Any tuning guru's out there?  ;)

I have a stage one ported head on my car that was fitted with a Thurock 2.0 8v engine by Volkspares.

I recently fitted a polished inlet manifold and noticed that the inlet ports have been ported out larger the the gasket and therefore the inlet manifold ports.

This has created a trough at the bottom of the ports in the head which i think may cause turbulance and therefore reduced gas speed.

Does anyone know the effects of overporting the size of ports on Cylinder heads? ???

Was this gasket the one that was on the car when you removed the manifold?

If so then it sounds weird because like you say the ports should be matched and not different as the airflow will be hitting the step caused by the protruding gasket.

I would check the manifold you have removed to see if it to is opened up for airflow. It might have been and they never told you about it but you don't get anything for free in this world so I doubt it.

The only thing to do is to try and get a gasket that fits onto the head and then get your polished manifold opened up slightly to match.

Hope that helps

Yes matey the gasket was on the car when i took the old mani off.

It looks like they have just opened up the inlet ports on the head without using the gasket as a template  >:(    IDIOTS!!

So the gasket is matched perfectly with the inlet manifold but the head has bigger ports!

If you want something doing well i guess you really do have to do it yourself...

Do u reckon this will cause turbulance in the airflow then mate?

I'm not to sure as to the effects of having a larger inlet port than manifold but as you say it should be matched so you get a true unhindered airflow into the head and combustion chamber.

how much of a difference is there between the head and gasket in mm?
