mayo in breather???
« on: 12 March 2007, 19:26 »
just discovered a load of mayo in the oil breather where it plugs in the air box - do I need to be worried???

Oil looks OK, and no oil in water.

set my mind at ease!

any on the cap? you may get some anyways from condensation but from the sounds of it you got abit more than that, might be worth having the compression checked or the water sniffed for signs of head gasket.

I shouldn't worry mate, I used to wash the custard out of the breather pipe on my valver every couple of months and that was fine. I think its because the oil vapour gets mixed with damp air and then condenses in the breather as its at the front of the engine bay and gets cooled by the air flow from the front of the car.

if you use it for short journeys then it will build up, just clean it out, and take it for a proper run using the rev range.

I go with the last reply. Pick a nice day for a drive, a sunny Sunday, clean out the crap and then go for a good long blast, preferably to a motor museum or car show. Put a couple of hundred miles on the clock and hopefully the rest of the condesation will just evaporate away with any stress you may have.

It's a common thing on the valver I'm trying to work out how to fit an oil catch tank to mine as that lot going back round the engine doesn't appeal to me too much. Rowlers the pipe is a fortune from VW I looked for one ages back just taped it up with self amalgamating tape and it's been alright ever since :)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08
