Soundpack option from VW
« on: 09 March 2007, 23:23 »
OK, currently have mfd 2 sat nav system , car has 10 speakers in front to back , now does this mean that it already has the soundpack fitted , or is it mean VW do a convertion with bigger amped speakers in their advertised  Soundpack option. And can anyone tell me is it worth it, is their much difference between either set. Im not a base box dik head, i like the clarity currently just wish it had  just a tad more base to it

Hi,

Looking at the golf brochure in front of me the answer is yes

Standard is 8 speakers and the soundpack has 10 speakers.

It does not specifically say that the sat nav comes with the soundpack, but I cannot see you paying over a grand on this option and them not supplying it when for a lot less you can have the RCD 500 with it.

I thought it was 8 on UK cars as standard and 10 on imports, could be wrong.

I remember when I first joined the forum, there was a member saying he paid the extra for the soundpack (I guess its an amp etc) and it was crap and he was complaining to VW to get his money back.

I've got 10 speakers in my import (no soundpack).  If you have the soundpack, there is an amp under the passenger seat.

I think the general consensus is that it's not worth the money.

Cheers.

Yup, I think its was Matt who said the soundpack was crap in a discussion with Doc early last year.  From what I remember, it wasn't recommended which is why I didn't order it.  Also, I was going to have the front and rear speaker upgrades from VW and I remembered from that and other posts  that the door cards of the Golf couldn't handle the extra noise and vibrated a lot so I skipped on those to.  My R32 (import) also had 10 speakers and my Edition 30 (UK car) with sat nav has 10 speakers - assuming the ones next to the door mirrors work.

If you look at the prices brochure, RCD300 has 8 speakers, RCD500 has 10 speakers.

If you look at the prices brochure, RCD300 has 8 speakers, RCD500 has 10 speakers.

True, but the RCD500 comes as two options: either with - or without the Soundpack.  GTI/R32 option prices for the RCD500, without soundpack is £275, and with soundpack is £675.

You can also get dealer supplied speaker "upgrade kits", the fronts (1K0 051 608 A) for £180, and the rears (1K0 051 606) for £115.

I have asked my stealer for the exact spec of these kits, but they are unable to tell me, and as Illy stated, Matt had a real run-in with VW UK on just how sh!te the soundpack was, and eventually got his money back!
