i dont just want the back box i want the whole system, so going to have to find a way to do this with out the risk of sheering off bolts

Depends on how adventurous (?) you are. If you are up to the challenge, acheive what you want to. Expect a bolt to break and be prepared for the extra work. Its good experience and you end up with what you want. There is a wealth of information and clever clogs on this site to help you through if the worst comes to the worst. Go for it!!

The easiest & safest option is #3, fit the whole system and mate it to your 1.6 downpipe with an adaptor.
The next hardest is option #1 you'll have to pull the engine or drop the subframe to get the 1.8 carb downpipe in, but no nuts/studs to worry about.

wel im sure that i would be able to do the work, but its just wether i can afford to take the car off the road for a while, due to travelling to work etc, and the limited tools that i have, just my dads tool kit.

Ah wow, not checked this in a while.

Yeah I got the verniers out, and found out the o.d of the gti system is like 49mm, and the driver is like 42mm, no amount of paste is gonna seal that!

Getting my dad to machine up an adapter sleeve, I can fit the rest of the system when I get round to fitting a gti head.

Cheers.
