New tappets make the engine sound like new (comparitively anyway!)

i was amazed when mine were done, no more noisy cold starts.

How much did it cost to sort the tappets? quite tempted...

£69 for tappets (or "cam followers" if you like!)
3 hours labour
This included fitting a new cam belt top cover (quick to do), change oil and filter and clean ISV.
Tappets alone would have been 2 hours labour i think.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

125 K on original engine, though it looks like the gearbox has been replaced before I got the car (one of those yellow markers they use at scrappies on it) but runs brilliant. Weber carb has given it a new lease of life, and I reckon the tappets have bene done too as quiet as a mouse! My last Mk2 driver only made it to 103 K and that was noisy as hell!. All in all I reckon its just about run in now, starting to loosen up nicely!
