MY valvers got 229000 and had an expensive last year of driving with a clutch change, oil cooler seal failure (, just switched engine off in time as it emptied the sump in seconds!!!) timing belt and a new valve cover gasket (twice cos I managed to to screw up the first one hence timing belt changed ) -  engines noisy (new tappets???) but still pulls well - it sound like theres plenty of high milers on here!

New tappets make the engine sound like new (comparitively anyway!)

i was amazed when mine were done, no more noisy cold starts.

I just need to get this steering problem sorted...  http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=55935

I don't think a semi will give the same results

my cars:

Mk3 8v - 136k - had a few teething problems with it having a flat spot and being hesitant but a new dizzy and a very expensive tune later seems to have cured it, other wise all good.

90 scirocco gt2 140k - no engine in it as the previous one died, would love to tell you what the cause of death was but after stripping it down I couldnt find anything, never bothered to put it back together.

90 16v - 157k, engine is solid as a rock never let me down once, however car is in pieces
