overheating

this is prob posted up here a million times, but im new so hey! 

drivin on the motorway and suddenly the car goes from 90c where it usually site away up to 130 then tellin me to stop.  so left it for a few days, took it out, sat at 90 again then after a while blasted up to 130 tellin me to stop. i havent drove it since then and i have bought a thermostat for it so its goin in to get fitted soon. will this cure the problem by the sounds of it?? or is there anything else i should check.

How old is your car? Sounds like it could be the common problem of the plastic impellors braking off inside the water pump (expect to pay the same labour prices as a cambelt change, infact you might aswell get your cambelt changed at the same time if this is the fault).

That is ofcourse assuming it really is overheating and not just getting an erroneous signal from a faulty water temp sender (which would be the first thing i change, since its a DIY 5 min job and cheap!).

when  do stop and check under the hood, the water is boiling. ill try the water temp sender. its a v reg 99.

then yeah i would suspect the pump, but the temp sender may cure your poor mpg that i read in the other thread.
