Good idea. But I've gone for the fixed cost servicing which prob means they won't put better oil in it for me (maybe if i pay a bit) and also means it's a bit daft to supply my own oil!

OK Sean, point us to where we can buy some bulk Oil!

I've had problems in the past with dealers using the wrong oil (it completely changed how the car ran - fuel consumption - performance - mpg etc) and I've always serviced my own cars. Obviously I will use a dealer for my ED30 but I'd like to know the best place to get my oil!

Same here but I'll be damned if I let them put cheap oil in my Ed30 - it will be serviced yearly with long life oil.  I'm calling the dealer tomorrow.

Look up commercial oil distributors in Yell.com.  As well as the usual 4/5 litre containers, they should supply 20 or 25 litre cubes, or 60 litre mini drums.  Unless you have 2 or more VAG motors (or clock up intergalactic mileages in your solitary GTI) needing the LongLife brew, I would advise sticking with the 20/25 litre cubes.  Just make sure you don't order heating oil, or stuff for a Volvo Penta . . .

I've had problems in the past with dealers using the wrong oil

Oh, tell me about it!  It's truely shocking that some main stealers do NOT know the correct oil for the car in question.  And as for getting oil changes done at Thik-Fit or Halfrauds, well anyone who does deserves anything they get!

So what is the correct oil for a GTI, if you excuse my ignorance!

Also, how do you make sure they have used the right stuff, other than standing there when they poor it in!

Any oil which is approved by VW to meet the specification VW 504.00!

Purchase the oil yourself, and take it to the stealer, asking them to use your own supply!
