and ill continue, cos i can justify owning an 8v

1: cant get any higher insurance
2: commuting 10miles to work doesnt require a super fast car
3: GTI badge is proudly displayed
4: anyone who gets in it thinks its a ferrari cos it wears a GTI badge and they dont know the difference

5: Most people i've spoken to think the GTI is faster than a VR6 cos its a GTI

yes thats not correct, but I dont care, they think I drive a super car! WOOT

The 8v rocks, Low down torque good

I've had most cars off the lights, clutch control

16v is also good but you have to rev the nuts off it to get the most out of it.

Here you go;

Golf GTI 8v         Golf GTI 16v
bhp          115                             150
torque    166 Nm at 3200 rpm      180 Nm at 4800 rpm

you have to rev the 16v an extra 1600 rpm to get to the max torque, so an a day to day drive the 8v torque is more accessable.

hang on..

its kinda stupid to say "well to get the max torque out of the more powerful car you have to do more" because the GTI "getting its max torque" doesnt equate to the same thing..

of course filling up a smaller bucket is going to be quicker/require less effort ;)

but do they fill at the same rate?

So how much to get the *same* out of both cars.. ?

So the 8V has a power to weight of around 110 bhp per ton???

Keep hanging on....

You could have a high powered engine that does not produce a lot of torque. (if it was not efficient - some big american cars)
To do a direct comparison from we need to look the the BHP and torque characteristic curve of both cars, then you can see the torque at a given RPM across the entire rev range and compare.
My point is that the 8v torque curve is higer than the 16v in the lower rev range, so more accessible in day to day driving.  :)

i wanna see a graph :)

get some 8vs 16vs and a vr6, all stock off and get the bits of paper so we can knock this on the head forever... everytime this comes up all the mk3 8v owners get all super defensive and then start claiming they're faster than vr6s let alone the valvers.

what does more accessible mean? that means you can get at more of whats there easier, because there isnt much there..
