Arches and Skirts help!
« on: 01 March 2007, 17:03 »
Hey,

I'm in need of some help, i've got everything you need to put the GTI Arches and skirts and door trim on the car 2 times over i think... If you look at the picture then your see what I've got, just a lot more of the black clips for the skirts, and clips in the bag...

How do i get the Skirts on?
And Arches?
And what to use?
In what order?

I'm really lost on how to do this really, looks good when there on but until then there just big pieces of plastic taking up a lot of space  :P

They won't be that grey when i put them on either  ;)

Cheers,

I'm not sure about the skirts but its probably similar to how that arches go on and thats with pop rivets. If you look at the edge of the arch there will be elongated holes - elongated to get the arch to match up to the skirt. Get you rivet gun place arch in correct place and squeeze the trigger. Might be an idea to put on skirts first, so that it all lines up nicely.

I'm sure someone will give you the exact method.

Good luck
<br />Almost finished.....

Sure i'll do it in the end...

I'll give it a good looking at, the fixing strip for the skirts i'll glue on, with sikaflex? or Gripful?

And then the black clips i'll glue to the skirts, and then just whack the skirts onto the fixing strip i think..? should work lol

Funnily enough, just removed all skirts, arches etc from a scrap 90 spec. The skirts should have like a thin gully type rail which is stuck along the length of the sill with that black foam stuff. Then, those clips you're holding are stuck on to the sill with that stuff again, at intervals to line up with the lugs on the inside edge of the outer skirt. The top of the clip is attached to the gully. You can buy the clips from the stealers for about £3.50 + vat each. Then the skirt is then pushed on to the gully. Hope that helps!!!
