What on Earth is this hose for - On throttle body??
« on: 28 February 2007, 19:29 »
Hi all,

First post and by the looks of things, the best place to post a question.

I have a '95 Gti 16v which is having a few problems.  most I can deal with but this one has me a little perplexed and I'm wondering if the blocked of hose that I've just found has anything to do with it?

Leaning over the offside wing into the engine, the TB sits in front to the left.  In the middle at the top pointing toward me is a 2" length of 1cm-ish hose.  it's been blocked off with a screw and I cannot find what the damned this is for.

I'm having warm start problems which I believe is is a vacuum hose or dirty TB (which I'll be cleaning at the weekend) but want to know wheather this piece of hose is a contributor to the problem

The car starts like brand new when cold.  Let it run for a min, half hour, hour... doesn't matter.  Try to start it again afterwards, it just doesn't want to know.  sometimes it's starts but literally the slightest touch to the accelerator means it'll die completely.  I don't think it's fuel related, more likely electrical...hence cleaning the throttle body may help.

Anyway.... a heads up on this hose would be helpful.

Thanks

Jim

You dont say what engine code you have, but on 8v ady's like mine, the only small hose is from the throttle body to the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail.

It might cause cutting out when warm as the mixture is weaker.

I guess you've got an induction kit instead of the standard air filter housing? If so, when the housing is removed that small pipe needs to be blocked off as if I remember corectly, it attaches to the housing onto a small metal nipple.

Warm start problem may be the ecu temp sensor. Its at the elbow in front of the block, would be worth getting it checked for error codes.

The only pipe i can see off my TB is that oil breather, helps your TB out when you boot it one, gives the oil more air, however my pipe is split, which isnt a good odea but if it's blocked, just replace it
