scorpion alarm problems!
« on: 25 February 2007, 17:08 »
Hi, I have got a problem with my alarm, I have a '97 golf gti 8v, and it has a standard vw alarm which is made by scorpion, it has a remote plip with one button, now when i got the car, it came with 2 remote plips, but only one worked, i presumed the battery was flat on the one that didnt work, but when i put a new battery in, it still didnt work, and when i say didnt work, i mean that the led doesnt light up! sometime ago, the working remote started to be a pain, it would only ar or disarm when it felt like it, and one day it took me over 15 mins at work to disarm the alarm, so I stopped using it. Now the real problem is, I had to put a new battery on the golf, and when i connected up the new battery, the alarm reset itself, and I cannot find the working remote! I have looked everywhere, and I found the spare keys with the non working remote, and also it has a small round barrel key, now I also have a '95 gti 16v that also has a round key like this, and it fits on the alarm to disarm it, but the '97 gti 8v alarm doesnt have a key hole for this small key, so my question is, where the bl***y hell does this small key fit? also as I dont want this problem in the future and also so I can use my gti, how can I take this alarm out, I have looked at the haynes manual and all it says is to contact vw, which I did and they wanted to charge me about £240 to sort out!!! and also understandibly haynes dont show a wiring diagram for the alarm, but someone must know a diagram or somehow to disable this dam stupid alarm!

Cheers

i've a scorpion 5000 too and fitted by vw, the sounder is on the right of the engine bay looking from the front on mine - it has a small rubber bung on the back of the horn unit - prise it up and theres the master key slot for this key.

hi thanks for your reply,
my alarm i believe is a scorpion 915 alarm, it has one button on the remote, and the sounder in the engine bay has nothing whatsoever on it, except the plug with two wires going into it, no rubber bungs or anything.

I have a MK3 16V with what I believe to be a Scorpion alarm. Mine has the small key to disarm on the unit too, but it also has the same thing in the back of the glovebox - it might be worth looking there if you haven't already.
Hope this helps. Phil
