Upgrading the mk3
« on: 23 February 2007, 22:37 »
Ok so since i could drive i've been wanting this car and those bits etc etc but obviously we all have our own dreams, just a few questions and wondering what you guys (and gals) think. Someone i know has offered me a VR6 engine, but i dont know in what condition and how much, obviously if i have it i'll strip it down over a long long period as i dont think an insurance group would be happy insuring a 19 year old on one. 2nd question is, do you think it would be worth putting this VR6 engine into my 1.4 golf, some people say yes and some say no, I know all the wiring would need doing again but people tell me it should drop straight in. Any ideas on this, or should i just save up my pennies?

neil you wouldnt be able to insure an engine swap. They need an independent engineers report with the swap and if you dont tell them then crash it or get stopped and the motor looked at by the plod then your arse is toast mate.

transplant cars are even dearer than the original to insure. Plus you need the suspension, driveshafts, brakes, brake balance controller and abs ecu, gearbox, main ecu etc etc. The 1.4 bits are just too different or too puny.

Save your cash and buy a real vr6, cos if you cant get cover for one they definately wont cover ya for an engine swapped motor.

Driving wi invalid or no cover is 10 points and a whoppin huge fine. Believe me i know
