split hose
« on: 23 February 2007, 21:53 »
Hi ya i got a Mk3 gti 8valve its been fitted with a cat back box system ,and i also have a induction kit, everything was running ok until i noticed a spit hose, the one leading down from the cylinder head to the bottom since this i noticed in mass loss of perfomance revving and running uneven and exhaust seems to sound louder as i have to rev to drive the car , to a reasonable speed but i know its lost a lot of its kick , Ive ordered another hose which arrives tomorrow , i wondered if anyone else has had this prob . I just hope it did not break with the mods Ive had fitted ,i don't think they should have spit the hose it looked like it needed renewing as the rubber at top has kinda hardened and crumbles.  I was thinking it had spit with the pressuse, but hope not i think the small split may have just got worse once it had the cut in it ,I'm not sure if it was caused during fitments of mod or just wear and tear .and i hope the new one will make it back to how it was , also as i went to order the one i noticed were i had temp repaired it it had split further down as well thus making it run uneven and know proper power under revs at moment I'm gentle on revs till i replace it . i was reading about the silicone hoses but they only come in the full kit  a bit pricey but i know the can last a lot longer also colour coded different colours. anyone have any ideas .

  thanx

you type in weird english man!

The split hose is the main coolant return from the block to the radiator. The lack of power means the engine is near to seizure i.e. dead golf, if you dont want to buy a new engine you dont drive with a split water hose, but its your car so hey, who am i to tell you lol

Good luck

maybe your right lads but the breather doesnt really go to the cylinder head - it goes to the rocker cover breather. I might have read it the wrong way lol

ai3d is it a water hose or an air hose? Big or medium...
