Just an update.
The car was booked into a local dealer today (not where I bought it) to have the button looked at, this is the earliest they could look at it. They diagnosed the button assembly on the steering wheel at fault and it needs to be replaced.
The assembly is out of stock and on back order. I was told when I rang up to check progress that it could take up to 6 weeks to get the part in but a couple of days when I collected the car, so who knows!
I thought everything would be ok on the car once this was sorted but my garage door blew shut on the passenger door the other day and has chipped the paintwork and put a small dent in the panel, grr
