well there must be something wrong with your car mate, I used to race these sportings when I was 17, had a 1.4 volvo 340 that used to leather them, a gti will walk away from them, they are only 60bhp 1.1s don't care how light they are, the golf isn't too much heavier.

Another quick question - My boss at work said I should get a mod done called "G.F. Stripes". He said its an easy mod that you can do yourself and it doesnt cost much. Anyone done this to theirs?

Mine is a MK II and has 179.8bhp and i run Goodyear F1s all round.

Does that up the car by 10bhp as a whole or does it up it 10bhp a corner?

I would be interested to know as it'd be nice to know that i was running 219.8bhp. Thats only .2bhp down on a Cossie.

How exciting.

I was keeping up with lots of things at Castle Combe track days last year........

........might have explained why....

Yep, 10b.h.p extra per corner there my friend, very tasty.

The Go Faster Stripes mod is still a good one, bit retro, but good for extra power still and an easy job for a novice DIY'er. They work best on red cars though for some reason. Oh and you'll also need to check with your insurance about the G.F.S mod, it normally ramps it up quite a bit. Speak to Martin on here from HIC and get a quote.

hmmm someones having a laugh at my expense :(

Tyres do make you go faster - the more grip the faster you can go. Also some tyres have less air in them so there are weight benifits.

It always annoys me when people dont get things- like when you fold the back seats down your car when out cruising to reduce the weight - when you crawl on the ice on a pond to avoid breaking the ice its the same thing.

Go and buy some tyres and experiment if your that bothered about going faster,  it shouldnt make that much difference and if you got whooped by one of those piddley cars theres something either terribably wrong with your golf or you havn't got a heavy enough foot
