My Golf
« on: 20 February 2007, 16:27 »
Hi chapz

I have had my golf 1.8 GTi for 3 weeks now and even tho its done nearly 290K it still runs like the day it first came out of the factory. Theres not a single ding on it at all, I think it must be dent proof! No rust neither. And the interior is perfect. A real minter. Must be thanks to the wonderful german engineering, they really dont make any other car like this do they?

Anyway I was just wondering what tyres to put on it to make it go faster?

What tyres to put on to make it go faster? Are you having a freaking laugh?

Only kidding, here's a rough break down;

Goodyear F1's - 10b.h.p
Avon ZZ3 - 6 - 7b.h.p
I think the Michellin give up to 20b.h.p extra, but I can't verify this.

Can anyone else add to this as I don't have anymore figures to hand?

I really didnt think tyres make any difference to speed, how can it? I guess larger ones might due to the circumferece but actual tyres, i havnt got a clue.

Well I had a little race with a friend who has a Ciquecento Sporting and he beat me. When we talked about it later I asked him what I need to do to go faster and he said buy some new wheels :(

i think smaller wheels on a car have a better acceration but larger tyres have a better high speed (i think)

Are you sure he didn't mean a new car? lol

Race him again on a properly twisty bit of road (after getting good tyres!) then see who wins  :grin:
