Check it out, the most important thing is how its been looked after. If it looks like its been well cared for then it should be O.K. To be honest you could buy one with 90K on the clock and theres no guarantee it will last any longer than one thats covered 200K, I've allways thought its a case of how its done the miles rather than how many miles its done

No probs mate ! I'm not an expert or anything but I've had two Golf and the first one had 83K on it when I bought it and it gave me more problems and cost more to maintain than the one I have now and that had 129K on it when I got it and its got 134K on it now and it runs a sweet as a nut, I would prefer a car that had a good solid rust free body than low miles.

Mines got 142k and runs as sweeet as a nut, but the previous owner spent an insane amount on it!!!! Service is of paramount importance, aswell as a head rebuild.

mines on 204k on it and it still drives like its done 60k. had a full service history when I bought it. oil was changed regularly it was really well maintained. So as long is its been loved the mileage shouldnt be a problem

Mines on 170k and its an utter dog, its still not running right after a year of trying
When you're buying a car this old, just ignore the milage completly and focus on the car itself, they're so easy to clock plus at this time in thier life its likely they have had a replacement set of clocks at some stage.

Agree with the above replies.  Mines 187K and I would not be affraid of buying another with high milage.  It will not be perect but if your happy with the history, bodywork and mechanical condition ignore the milage.  Its how she runs and looks that matters!

Yeah, theres hardly any original bits in the bloody thing but poor mpg persists
The main reason I know these things is I buy absolute sh!tters with every possible thing wrong with them, my 2e2 FAQ is a perfect example, if its in the FAQ it was broken on my driver
