Temperature sensor?
« on: 19 February 2007, 14:23 »
The engine temperature dial on the dash on my mk2 8v GTi has stopped working, is this normally a faulty temperture sensor? Also would I be correct in thinking that the sensor is the one with the blue connector plug as shown below?

The blue one is the ECU temp sendor and the black one is the temp gauge sender

is this the same sensor on the driver as well? and does anyone have a part number so it is easier to order the new part? or how easy was it to clean up?

Not sure if its the same part number on a driver though it did have a VW part number on it. Very easy to clean I simply pulled it out and wiped it with a cloth till all of the crap was off it

yes it is, you'll find it underneath that housing, the red & grey ones on the top are for the autochoke and inlet manifold heaters :)

just been out to have a look at the sensor. and what a biatch it is to get out. it doesnt help the fact that someone has cut off the proper connector to the sensor and put 2 spade connectors onto it so you dont know which way round the go. and me not thinkin pulled the plug out, not thinking that the collant is going to flow out. so im goin to have to go to a breakers and see it they have a golf driver so i can cut off the connector and solder it on. and then im goin to have to drain the coolant and then test the sensor!!! what a lot of hastle. wel comared to some of the projects you lot get up to this is nothing, but in my world of car projects this is annoying

doesnt really matter which way the wires go on really, its just offering a variable resistance back to the temp guage :)
