HELP! trying to fit 16v brakes
« on: 10 February 2007, 11:32 »
Hey I have been outside to try and fit my new brakes, but my car is an 89 gti 8 v, the hubs and carriers look to be one peice  thought that they changed them around 87? does anyone know where I can get the 16v hubs from cheaply or whether I need to do anything else when I change them like ball joints, bearings CV boot etc? might end up selling the brakes again, have the MC to go on but not sure whether its worth the hassle, can't go for G60 as I only have 14" BBS RAs

Not much help but when I bought my 16v setup it included the brakes, carriers, hubs and discs.
You should be able to find a 16v with the hubs available somewhere, maybe a scrap yard etc?

You'll need new hubs/bearing housing/calipers and carriers if you want 256mm discs, either buy these bits from the forums or ebay or find a 90 spec 16v down a scrapyard, removing the hubs/bearing housing will not be easy.

sorry the only thing that changed in 87 on 8v brakes was the ball joint size ;)
The only cars that got the 256mm brakes as std was the 16v from 1990 onwards.  They also say the very last of the 8vs got 256mm brakes, but I've yet to see any hard evidence.
