golf six speed swap
« on: 09 February 2007, 20:03 »
has anybody bought this months performance vw mag (march '07).  well if not get it, especially if you've thought about putting a six speed box in your mk2. apparently the mk5 six speed box should bolt straight on to your mk2. they really simplify it too. i'm certainly thinking about it now. the box is actually an 02S which they describe as a six speed version of the 02A/J which can be found in both the mk2 and mk3 but if you've got an early gearbox 020 code then you can stick one in too. the only downside is the fact that it doesn't have a speedo drive as the mk5 takes its reading from the abs wheel speed sensors but QPEng is currently developing a bolt on external speedo drive kit that will use the mk2 cable and mk3 electronic speed sensor.

i know, how cool, definitely slamming one in my mk2 16v.

imagine how much quicker accelaration and top speed will be and better fuel consumption too. everyones a winner.

My Gearbox just went BANG! time to get this plan in action. I have tracked a 6 speed mk5 box down with all cables and rods and gubbins for £350 so 50 more than a mk2 box second hand!! :D Noe to go buy PVW

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

let us know what it's like when its done. it's good when someone else does it before you cos they can tell you if it makes much of a difference and how easy it is too. make sure you post on this thread when you've done it cos i'd love to know.
