ECU upgrades!!
« on: 09 February 2007, 18:53 »
Hi, i dont actually hav a mk3, however i hav a 2e engine in my mk2, and scirocco!

Am running them both on very small carbs, with an  output of about 120hp, which is good considering, however the power is very limited, and drops off in 4th and 5th where the carb cant fuel well enough, and air just can get in quick enough!!

I hav the inlet off a mk3...and still hav all the sensors from the mk3, so am goin to wire it in hopfully to run injection...along with an injection pump and regulator!

Is there anything that can be done to upgrade this system, ie a plug in chip, or remapable system! (new to injection vehicles so all a bit vague for me)

Cheers
Mark
2 Mk2's, both in bits, 2 Rocco's soon to become 1, and a Polo 1.3.....
The polo is the only car with MOT and in working order...Doh!!

A far simpler solution for you would be to fit bigger carbs! A big fat twin choke carb on a decent inlet manifold will be far better than any injection system!

cant see how you can say a set of 40's etc is better than injection...

Mate, just remember that the map cant really be altered so from that point of view you might be better off looking at the carbs and seeing if anyone can tweek them.

For the price of 40's etc id be tempted to look into megasquirt.

thats not true though is it... when you jet carbs you have to compromise on where you want the power to be. The reason why people use bike carbs is because they have a lot more jets to allow a better flow of petrol across the rev range.

Carbs can be set up quite well... but a well set up injection system will compete everytime.

And as far as the costs involved in setting up injection... you might have to be cautious as to which parts you use ie the correct fuel lines will need to be used. Make sure all the jets are running right etc.

For the money of a set of carbs id be tempted to buy a bigger brakes and lose some weight out of the car. The better you can brake the longer you can stay off the brakes for.
