« on: 09 February 2007, 16:26 »
hiya, thanks for opening this, i have a 1997/P Gti 2L 8v 123k, the problem of the moment is my oil warning light keeps flashing (but no buzzing) my local garage surgested that it might be the oil pressure switches so i swapped them for a new pair today.......still no luck any ideas anyone?

Its had a new coil two weeks ago and relay 30 about 6 months ago.

if the senders are new i'd suggest the wiring to the ecu or the ecu itself, was it the ecu relay you replaced too? position 3, no 30

Just thinking, does the oil temp display work on the MFA? One is for that and the other for the light but the ecu controls the light from those inputs. Might need a VAG diagnostic check to see if you have a fault code.

Try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins to reset the ecu if the flashing is just a fault code reminder!

Thanks for the reply EvilScotsman, yeah, its was relay 30, the one that was causeing intermitant cutting, (this has been fine since it was replaced)

The Oil temp does work after its been running for about a min. bulb behind that dispay went out about a month ago then came on for a couple of days now is out (dont know if it could be electrical behind the clocks ??)

Ill try resetting the ECU tonight when i get off work if that doesnt do the trick ill get a diagnostic check done. will post results :)

Hi,

The oil temp display on the MFA doesnt show up until 50oC is reached (my 8v gti takes about 10 mins driving before this happens but its got a 180o thermostat to protect from overheating...

If the mfa works then one of the senders works. The oil light flashing is a warning from the ecu and is usually accompanied by cutting out lol :O)

Hope you get it fixed, let us know

I have a haynes if you dont, an i can look up the test procedure for the oil pressure sender (the mfa one is oil temp)
