Newbiee about to buy...
« on: 07 February 2007, 10:19 »
Hi,

Finally after trawling through car mags for months studying power to weight ratios, 0-60 times, etc. I have narrowed down the search to the GTI Mk5. Basically, I wanted something with similar performance to my Clio Sport 182 but bigger and with 5 doors.

Two final questions that I have and would appeciate input:

* Is the windscreen heat reflective (athermic is the tech term) which stops GPS signals entering through the windscreen for a TomTom GPS Navigator? If it is, is there a cutaway section somewhere to allow the signals through?

* Is the 300 Radio any good? Or should I be looking at an aftermarket Apline something to replace it as quick as possible? There is the 500 option but I'm not sure what the difference is.

The Xenon lights come as standard where I am buying (in Spain ). Any other "must have" option?

Thanks for any help!

I have a TomTom710 and it works fine through the windscreen.

I think it is fine and reasonable but then I mostly listen to radio or my ipod.

I would deffo go for the centre armrest. as already said the RC300 is OK, but then I'm an old Gezzer, some younger pups want pumping base, and find it a little weak.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Yeah, I'll probably be listening mostly to the radio and Ipod too, and also not looking to create seismic bass waves to crumble the neighbourhood. I guess the RC300 should be ok then!
