Hmmm...had a phone call from the dealer tonight

My Edition 30 has had something missed by the dealer at time of ordering into system

In early November 06, I'd originally ordered a 3 door, 6spd in Red, with options of ipod prep with armrest, bi-xenons, rear parking sensors and highline computer. Order was then amended next day to same as above, but in Candy White. I have copies of order forms for both of these.

1 week later, and well before the final cut off for amendments, I requested the addition of the multi-function steering wheel.  My salesman was off on holiday, and the sales manager himself noted the amendment, and said not a problem. I was not provided with a copy of this last amended order form.

However, I was in on Saturday just finalising the deal for 1st March delivery, and something they said made me ask for them to check the order. Sales manager definitely remembers the amendment, but it has not gone onto system. After checking DIALOG, they have confirmed all options bar the wheel have been included.

Annoying , but not a dealbreaker..I'll still take delivery on 1st March as it has everything else I wanted (or at least it better had when it turns up in the next couple of weeks at the dealer!)

My question:

Can the multi-function wheel be retrofitted easily, and has anyone done this already?

I want to consider whether to ask the dealership to retrofit it, but for the same price as factory option

Good question, would like to also know the cost of parts and ease of self fit?

Let us know how you get on.. id also be interested because I really miss not having to lean halfway across the car to fiddle with the stereo!

If they refuse to retro-fit them, then surely they can't charge you for them?

oh no, I won't be charged for something that's not on the car - thats not the issue, and to be fair, they were quick in saying that it was their omission...mistakes happen, and I'm not going to shout and stamp my feet

Just wondered how straightforward it is for retrofitting...I could at least go back to them and offer to pay the factory price, if they met the cost of their omission over and above the factory price..ie, if it costs £500 in parts and workshop time, I would pay £300 or so, and they meet the rest

Another part of me is saying not to bother, in case of damage, etc when a tech tries to fit something they've never done before

f*** that!!! You got to be one confident guy to pi$$ around with the airbag and steering wheel like that!!!

I popped into the dealer to find out if I could get the multi function fitted to mine and they said no straight away. I reckon it would cost a fortune anyway. But then again, a vw technician should be very competent installing a retro fit.

Hi,

what differance does this multi-fuction wheel make, it was a £50 option of the top of my head, do people think it is worth it?

Had a look through the installation, looks alright, as its pretty much plug and play, yes maybe fiddly and maybe a bit dodgy to work with airbag, but if you follow the steps, it should be dandy.

afraid not...it was £370 option...gives steering wheel controls for stereo head unit, and phone
It can also be ordered with the paddles for the DSG gearbox

hmm, after seeing the install, reckon I'll give it a miss...I can see too many things going wrong with a retrofit by an inexperienced tech
