My mk5 is now 8 months old and three times over that period I've had the seatbelt warning message come up (along with irritating chime) while driving along with the belt fastened.  If I stop the car, turn off the engine and then re-start everything goes back to normal.

As this only happens very occasionally, I'm going to wait until the first service to raise it with the dealer, but interested to hear if anyone else has had the same issue.

Do you have anything on the passengers seat?

If so then the car can sense that you have a passenger by mistake.

If not then go to VW!

I was gonna say that too Doc.
Mine goes off with a 1.5 litre bottle of water placed on the seat!

This forum is great!

I was driving to work this morning when the seatbelt warning sign kept coming on without warning even though I had my seatbelt on.

On coming to work I searched the forum and found the above advice.  I did have my rucksac on the passenger seat and it was quite heavey.  I'll try not havng it on the seat on the way home and see if that works.

Will help as I can't leave the nippers car seat in situ without it binging away. Pain in the hole but reminder not to get a fine

Spare buckle used when dog in front.  Ideal use for little storage flap near right knee, keeping the buckle in.

I had that seatbelt chime removed via VAGCOM as it's just another thing to go wrong, I know to put my seatbelt on. It's only there because it adds more points on the Euro NCAP. I wouldn't waste time and money trying to fix it, just get it removed.

The actual chime probably doesn't matter but i'm pretty sure the passenger seat sensor is connected to the airbag control, right?

So the passenger airbag will only go off if there is someone is sitting there.
