On deceleration, and when changing down from fourth to third and at about 2500 rpm my exhaust makes a popping noise. is this an exhaust problem or something else? the exhaust is a bosal  ??? from the downpipe back

cheers

ps it a 92pb 8v

if the exhaust is blowing then you will get pop's

with the car parked just open you door and stick your head underneath while you stab the accelerator with your hand

you'll hear the pops then

it might just be a loose bracket, and its blowing at the join, i've had this a couple of times

it sometimes caused by as suggested air leaks it is also caused by unburned fuel ignition in the exhaust
if you get flames out of the exhaust this is called
afterburner! F1 engines do this very
well..
and yes they do it natrual (no flamer kit)

Could also be that being an aftermarket exhaust it doesn't have the baffling qualities of the original so is just making a popping noise because itcant cop e with the air going through it.

My sister in law had an after market exhaust on her astra and after driving it the wire wool used to hang out the back so it looked like a beard.

That was a bosai too.

i used to get that popping noise. i had a look under the car and noticed that i had a hairline crack in my aftermarket middle section. This happend because the car was too low for road humps.

Got it mig welded and pasted. Sorted

I seem to have a spit-fire airplane noise now :D
