loss power when driving up to hill golf mk2 1.6 ez
« on: 01 February 2007, 14:44 »
was driving normal my car and i stoped for a while and turn off engine. then i start engine again try to drive but my car did not have any power in 1st gear. then i stop by the road and saw that rpm at too high like 3000 rpms non stop, then i drive to my home but everytime when i push gas pedal car tries to die almost. then i drived to my home but fuel consumtion was about 16 to 20 litre per 100 km, there was a big black smoke behind me. then i drive car to local service, they changed pulldown unit, they made changes on 3/4point unit, changes on CO, then they pull out waxstat and made sam changes about metal that is arround the pin, then they changed so called warm-up cam control position and they changed timing on ignition distributor they moved it little bit on the right side. after that i made some changes on ignition timing, CO, 3/4 point unit. than fuel consumption was like 6,5 - 7 litres/100km. everything was fine but i did not have acceleration and power to run car up to the hill like before. than i changed sparks, clutch friction disc, clean carb, check all tubes, and changed plastic tube from stage 2 vacuum unit and there was big changes in perfomanse but there is not that power i use to have. i can't drive my car up to that hill at previous speed 152 km/h, i can only drive it at 138 km/h in 3rd gear. but situation before was that i could run it up to that hill in 4th gear at 145 km/h, and in 3rd 152 km/h.

I tried all things like adding additional fuel to acceleration pump, change CO, than change ignition timing, and nothing. i can not get my car back like it was before just because some stupid techinicans in car service, made changes. acceleration car on flat road or on highway is great. there is just need to 5 to 10% of power. i have no idea what to do.

i have some links from my golf mk2 1.6 ez engine

Used to own 1.8 Golf tour a long time ago - remember similar issues which definately related to the auto choke. From memory there were 2 points of failure - first one is the waxstat, which I changed myself and was quite easy. Also, I think there was a diaphram which can become damaged and again is cheap and easy to replace. As I say - a long time ago, so may be worth taking further advice. The loss of power and black smoke to me would suggest seriously rich mixture which would be typical of over-choking.

ouch, it sounds like all they had to do was replace the coolant channel o'ring in the inlet manifold.  If they have fiddled with the settings on the 2e2 its very hard to get them back to the factory spec! Read thru my Pierburg 2e2 FAQ, particularly the last part about the o'ring in the inlet manifold.
