Thanks everyone, still haven't got the car sorted-just haven't had the time or the weather!
I've just been looking out the window at the car and I've noticed the wipers are the other way round to all the other cars around it and it doesn't have a blanking plate. The wiper hubs are in the centre and on the passenger side-wierd! I wonder if the car was imported as a lhd and converted (having said that why isn't there a blanking plate on the drivers side?)-anyone else's like this?
