What were the standard wheels?

I recently bourght a 91 J Big bumper 5 door 8v GTi and am trying to restore it to showroom condition. However I'm not sure what the standard wheels should be. At the moment it is running on a set of 14" steels (the ones with the holes in) but I think the 5 door should have had alloys as standard. Can anyone help, and does anybody have a pic of the correct wheels.

I'm pretty sure the last model year of the 8V had the same wheels as the 16V, have you got half tint rear lights?

The wheels should look like mine.

I haven't got half tints, but I have someone on the lookout for a set. Do you know where I can get some?

I'm having a set of 15" BBSs restored at the moment, but I thourght they were option list stuff.

I would try ebay as I always see sets of them on there and always cheap.

Been a load of good stuff on there of late.

I think it depends on what month the car was made, I have a 91 J plate but it is a run out model which means it has BBS alloys, half tint rear lights and electric windows.

The steel wheels you mention were standard for a while on H plates, not sure about J plates though.

If you don't have electric windows then I think the steel ones are standard.

It is an August 91 J plate. I have keep fit windows, so I probably have the standard steel wheels then.

although its a J plate it could have been sitting in a yard for over 6mths before it was registered!

if you have normal windows then yes id say it had steel wheels also

presume it has non tinted windows also

mine is a runout, bbs, leccy windows and tints its feb 92 j plater
