How easy is it?
« on: 22 January 2004, 14:25 »
Does anyone know how easy it is to convert a 8v gti from a mk2 engine into driver? I have been offered a gti for 150 notes, the car is rotten as sh!t but the engine has a genuine 80k on it. Its from a C reg Mk2 gti to a 91 J reg Driver. Cheers in advance Paul

So its a K-Jet GTi then?

The wiring loom is probably gonna be a pain in the neck.

The golf nerds should have a better answer 8)

all you need is the GTi cam and Exhaust manifold, both will fit onto your existing driver head & block

and hey preisto you have a GTi all be it, running a carb, but still the same performance

what about swapping the interiors as well?? do drivers have rear disk's?? could swap the complete rear beam also if nessecary

I was thinking of swapping the rear beam aswell, not gonner change the interior cos ive got the rainbow interior in mine and i think it looks better. Was wanting the MFA aswell.
Also my clutch needs changing and my gearbox is on its way out and its starting to burn oil and blow smoke, generally tired i think! so i though if i dropped the new engine in it would save me doing those aswell. Got a set of engine hoists at my house so gettin it out shouldnt be a problem.
My driver has power steering though and i dont want to loose that.
Its the loom i as concerned about.
