Engine transplants.....
« on: 27 January 2007, 19:31 »
Can't believe I am asking this already before I have even got my first Golf

What are the common (even uncommon) engine transplants that take place in the MK3 golfs? Ive seen a VRS engine for sale in the for sale section on this forum so I am assuming that is one option?
Only asking because I have learned through experience that the best way to add power for £ for £ value is to just swap and n/a engine to a turbo engine.

Just curious more than anything else, obviously normal GTI suspension brakes would need changing but how strong is the standard gearbox, clutch flywheel and things like CV joints? Some cars IE Escort Cosworth don't need such things changing when upgrading and I am new to VW Golf so thought I would pick all your brains

I assume you mean VR6 not VRS ? if so, just buy a VR6 or send me the money and i'll waste it for you.

Not many people seem to have bothered with transplants in mk3's , probably cos you can buy one with almost 180bhp anyway.

I'd guess the obvious one would be 1.8T or maybe the new 2.0 FSI turbo if your made of money.

As tempting as that sounds I may pass on it this time

No mate I mean VRS as in the skoda lump as for sale in here..

Was just wondering if it s a common thing done thats all.
I know there wouldn't be much point in upgrading to a VR6 for the sake of about 30HP is it? The 2.0 16v gti has 150HP? yet a vr6 on this site was rolling roaded at only 179HP (I think)????
I'm guessing that the vr6 would have a fair bit more torque though.

Wish I was but Ive driven turbos for a few years now and have got used to the nice surge you feel once its spooled up

that VRS lump is the 1.8 T isn't it? but in 180bhp form rather than 150.  If you're up to it , go for it.

Dizzie from this site put a 1.8T in his mk2 and i'm sure there will be plenty of support from him and others if you need advice.

I reackon it'll be better than a VR6 cos from what I understand they're a bit reluctant to go where you point them on the bends due to weight.

That VRS lump would kick VR6 arse with a visit to AMD or similar aswell.

thats never a good thing lol

Like I was saying before I haven't even got my golf yet, just weighing up the options. It seems that its a fair bit easier to alter engines etc cost wise than my previous MR2 turbo.
Are AMD a tuning specialist for VW then?

Or go one better, put an R32 engine in and add a stage 4 turbo, you'll be pushing around 750bhp then, i've got some videos somewhere if your interested, although it's not mine

Niceeeeeeeeeeeee

Just watched a clip somewhere on you tube of a red beast with 500HP eating porches for brekkie on a track. Then a clip of a 900HP one!!! drifting!

What other tuning companies are around for MK3 golfs then? Can see me getting into just as much debt with a golf than I did with my MR2 lol

Plus you lot seem friendly on here to boot
