hi mate,

I'm sure they are different, I thought mk3 were 5x114 and mk4 were 5x100 - maybe the ET (offset) is different anyway, hence the caps pop off. I have a mk3 8v GTi and im was led to believe the mk4 wheels dont fit.

Anyone else know better?

If they are mk4 wheels, and they do go on ok, you might get away wi a spacer to bring the wheel out slightly.

The centre cap on a wheel doesnt keep the grease in the wheel bearing anyway, thats the job of the wee cap on the end of the stub axle which stays there even wi the wheel off.

the bolt holes line up and they sit perfect on the front but on the rear the cap for the wheel bearing sits too far out and knocks the cap out of alloy. i knock the cap down a bit but still no better any ideas

I would do what Evil said, and put a spacer in there, see how far its sitting out, and then get the size accordigly, there pretty cheap and can pick em up from halfords i think! Make sure you have anough turns on the bolts though, dont want the bolts snapping off and people dying now. Theres wider spacers where you can bolt your wheel on to the spacer and then the spacer bolts on to the hub, but i think there preety expensive as far i know..

well it was either take the cap off and just keep the rease in under the badge our put a spacer in it really on the thickeness of the cap that it stick out. i really think the wheels will look nice so ill have to have a go

Opel,

Stud pattern for mk3 and mk4 is identical 5x100 so you don't need to worry about that.

You got any pics of what you're trying to do?

I've got some spacers on my mk3 16v and they do help fill the arches nicely.

I got some alloy FK adaptor type ones, the spacer bolts to the hub (with provided bolts) then you bolt the wheel to the spacer with existing wheel bolts. These were £62ish for a pair.

You can get steel ones for about £45 a pair but they are v heavy

Here's a link to a website who sells different types:

Hope this helps

mate... 5mm spacer on each rear hub, jobs a good 'un.

give u a nice wide stance at the back as well!!!

however, im not a huge fan of universal spacers, which is what they will be at 5mm thickness, ideally u want them so that the central diameter matches so they sit perfectly and line up with the bolt holes properly.

universal ones are a b!tch when it comes to re-fitting the wheel as they move all over the place

sorry for late reply mate....

TBH i cant be of much more help, i wouldnt of thought it would be too noticable, plus u could always go for 3mm up front or even 5 mm all round to make sure it all matches.

as for bolts... again i cant help you, new to the dub scene so havent got much hands on knowledge, with a 3mm spacer i would of thought there would be enough room on the thread of the bolt to hold, but at 5mm i cant be sure.

cant you take a dremmel or something to the caps? cut a few mm off the end that touches the wheel bearing and see if they hold?
