VW assist on imports?
« on: 26 January 2007, 14:47 »
Before I bought the golf I think I read somewhere (possibly on tyresmoke) that when you register imports on the VW UK system you get 12 months VW assist.  I would have thought you only get this if you buy from a main stealer and sure enough I have had nothing sent through from VW now that I am up and running on the UK system. Does anybody know any more on this?

Cheers

AFAIK you only get VW assist on UK supplied cars.

From the VW website:

What roadside assistance do I have on my imported Volkswagen?

Personal imports originating from Western Europe will generally be covered by a service called "Mobility Guarantee" from the country which supplied the car. Mobility Guarantee is limited in terms of the cover and duration it provides (12 months) and details can be found in the vehicle information wallet. Generally this service covers failure due to mechanical or electrical failure of the vehicle and does not provide help for such things as punctures, accident recovery, out of, or wrong fuel or lost keys. We therefore strongly recommend that you purchase our comprehensive Volkswagen assistance cover. For more information, please contact 0500 275 577.

Exclusions
Volkswagen Assistance will not provide service for:
2. Personally imported vehicles where Volkswagen Assistance has not been purchased direct from Volkswagen.

FI33ER - That's good to know.  Glad to see that VW are consistent with their information as ever  Still at least you managed to get hold of some helpful VW bods!

laney - you best chase VW up for your paperwork!

I've been meaning to chase VW up on this all week but have been snowed under at work (how topical ).  Anyway, got home last night and what do you know, I have my membership card waiting for me on the doormat. Expires beginning of November despite the car being registered mid Dec (think this is the build date), but can't complain - I'd virtually given up on it altogether!

Spoke to local dealer who has registered my import from Dutch dealer via UK broker about VW assist.  As usual they did not have a clue about VW assist.  Who do I need to talk to at VW UK to get VW assist set up.  Do you have a number or dept to call, email or write to having been throught the process previously?  Thanks for your help.
