8v or 16? that is the question
« on: 25 January 2007, 10:31 »
Just bought MK111 Gti 2.0 under the assumption it was an 8V and under the bonnet it think it is. However, i have just recieved paper work through from insurance, whom i gave reg of vehicle to them the day before, and on the paper it says it is registered as 16v and therefore i think i am paying a lot more for a car that is not as powerful. any ideas to whats going on here, or what i can do?
any help would be appreciated.

Take a photo of the engine . We can tell you which it is then .

Or tell us the engine code

This is a pic of the 2.0 16v engine.

I've heard of people trying to pass an 8v off as a 16v but not the other way around

Stomper, Where did you get the headlamps from and are they any good?  Same goes for the ignition leads.

Unfortunately that isn't my car, it's a very rare 16v anniversary (one of 150 minus any that have been crashed!)

I got it off the web just to show jboulton what the engine looks like!

Here's a link to the website i got it from, you might be able to find out from the guy who posted it

Its extremely easy to distinguish!

A 16v has a huge shiny alloy induction manifold over the top of the engine with a great big "16V" stamped on it!

And its far faster of course!

Please , don't go down this road again(*) . Petty bickering isn't going to answer the original question .

That isn't an open invitation to argue about 1/4 mile times either

well it seems i have reignited an old age debate, i apologise.
from the photos and descriptions its then definetely an 8v, no doubt. the queston is why they have it registered as a 16v? i will phone them and tell them, but im worried that they are going to tell me where to go.from my calculations i think i am being charged nearly £100 more than i should be.
Thanks for your help,
time to do some investigating...
