RIGHT GUYS I NEED YOUR HELP!
« on: 24 January 2007, 23:08 »
i recently went to go and look at a golf 16v in shwartz blue it was basically mine but the the idiot sold the car 20 minutes before i was going to pick it up on ebay.

Not to worry though, i found another one, its a 16v, royal blue 3dr, its quite a drive for me (about 3 hours) so i want to get this right and ask you lot if its worth the hassle, and im going friday.

to me the car in the picutres looks straight i have spoken to the guy and he says that the car has been in there local town since it was bought and it has had 3 owners

the second owner rebuilt the engine and gearbox as he was a mechanic, he has reboared it and fitted some new audi quattro parts.

now the seller has had it for 2 years and cover 60k (he drove it a lot as he was in the army and stationed about 2 hours away) he sounds a genuine chap and says it has 113k on the clock and service history for 60 k of it. the interior and painwork matches up with the milage as it is completly mint bar some rust on the back and its just surface on the boot.

heres the advert.........

Im deeply upset to do this but the time has come to sell my Mk2 16 Valver and move on to pastured green. This car has been with me for since August 2004 and bought it off my mate who is a Mechanic who had rebuilt the Engine & Gearbox but needed to sell it due to space in his garage for another project. When i bougt the car off him the new engine & gearbox had only done 10000 miles but he never documented this for me but i will chase this up after xmas when i see him.

The car has been well looked after by myself as i relied on it to travel back & for from Portsmouth every weekend as i'm in the Armed Forces and based down there. I have had it regaulary serviced by my mate and i have the history to prove this and had the oil changed every 6000 miles by him.

Now to the details:

The car has had 3 owners from new & has been a local car since coming out of the showroom. It has now covered 113535 miles on the speedometer but since the engine was rebuilt it has covered around 60000 miles & is also taxed until Aug 07 & has and MOT til Sept 07. I have all the service history from when i bought the car but there is none before that has my mate was doing all the work himself.

Now to the Modifications:

My mate did alot of tweeks to the engine when he rebuilt it i.e re-boared it, fitted Audi Quattro parts & he rebuilt the gearbox. (i will get this documented before the new year is out though to find out the exact details).

The car has been lowered by 40mm which has improved the handling & i have fitted a Jetex Sprint Stainless Steel Full Exhaust System.

he wants a grand.

would you? and what questions would you ask......im new to all this so all the help would be very much appreciated

thanks

Sounds ok, but I'd want to know what Audi Quattro parts have been fitted.
113K on the clock for a Mk2 sounds fine.
I would recommend doing an HPI check before driving over 3 hours, if only to make sure it's not been crashed/written off and that the mileage is genuine. An HPI check from the RAC will cost £25 and save you from buying a lemon, and if the car's all fine, then it'll make it easier to sell on later.

I use a spot on service called CAR CHECK.  You text CHECKB4 then the reg number to, 88600.  You then get a text back stating model, VIN, number of previous, any colour changes etc.  You then send another text to get any info from the police and insurance register to find out if its been nicked and/or written off.

Ive used it loads of times now and it only costs £3.  OK you dont get the full treatment like a folder sent to you like with HPI or RAC but its great if you need to know if the cars dodgey or not there and then.
