Breaks on fire ..............AAAAAggggggghhhhhhhhh
« on: 24 January 2007, 16:17 »
Just on my way home from work i pulled into the local petrol station to find my off side rear break was  on fire. As you would probably of guessed fire and petrol are not a good combination.... so I'm thinking the breaks are binding , booked her in with one of my mates to have a look. Ive got the Mrs BMW 318is coupe e36 for the week to have a play in, please snow please snow .......... mmmmm traction control off...

lol, my mate was driving his smart car and noticed that the rear corner brake was binding - he waited until he got to a service station before he pulled over, and because the friction had built to such a point, it had set on fire. his first reaction was to get on his hands and knees and try and blow it out, lol. then when he saw sense, he ran into the service station restaurant, ran straight into the kitchen, grabbed a pan filled it with water, and ran back out!

for this very reason, i always carry a fire extinguisher in my car - i figure out, it might not put a big fire out, but it could put out any flame on me ;)

the only time i've ever had brakes with arsonist tendancies is when my "racing tractor" (ok a ride-on mower geared up to go fast) wanted its tiny little brake disk tightening up. of course i over-did it causing lots of smoke and a few little flames :)

I don't think a semi will give the same results
