Golfs getting Broken Into/ Stolen?
« on: 24 January 2007, 12:06 »
I wondered if yourself or anybody you know has had their golf broken into or stolen? :undecided:

And if the stigma attached to owning a golf gti means they get broken into or stolen was justified. Such as insurance companies hike up prices etc.

Cant stand thieving f**kers, sorry.

Opinions please.

Some one had a go at my mk1 but didn't actually get in and did some damage to it, which is a bit fooking stupid because cabs are easy to get in anyway without causing any damage, but I won't tell you how. I had my camper droken into and the stereo stolen and the dash chipped as they got it out. But I've had other cars broken into a few times and one totally burnt out years ago, so it's all makes and models not just Golf GTI's.
......now officially dubless.

Two of my previous gti's have been broken into but it was mainly to thieve my sounds :(
When my last oakie was broken into some attempt had been made to butcher the wiring and start it but luckily they were stopped by the immobiliser.

I also had an old sierra stolen and burnt out years ago so as Gibby says it doesn't matter what it is when some thieving cnut decides they want it.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Does a bungled attempt count:

Didn't get any photos of the second bungled attempt - seems a MK4 is inpenetrable!! They even smashed the window on the second go, and still go Fcuk all. Muppets.

Police think they were after stereo system. Scumbags

that looks crazy s11eps! thats one of the worst attempts ive seen. Sorry to hear the stories gentlemen. ive had one incident of car crime and they took nothing also, carried a few bags from my boot a few hundred metres and dumped then. Luckily they were recovered.and no smashed windows. Seemed like a screwdriver job. Possibly in search of a system.

I just wasnt sure if golfs have their fair share of being targetted. i guess if a pikey is after something theyl do anything.

Talk about making a meal of it!!

I'm on my 4th Golf & never had a problem, someone tried to have my XR2i away years ago but they couldn't get it started. My Mk4 GTi is about 25% less to insure than my Honda Accord Type R was so am chuffed!!

I'm lucky where I live as am at the end of a cul-de-sac in a 'nice' area and there are some nice cars here and in the 4 years I've been here there have been no probs.

I used to live in the centre of town and parked on the street. Had my Mk2 broken into x2 for my stereo equipment. Made a stealth shelf and left an open empty glove box on display and had no probs after that.

Penalties for theft are pityfull, go for the Japanese approach and see the results...punishment nowhere fits the crime, again the motorist pays through the nose to keep the system running...f**king crap.

I was all way's warned that golf's were easy to break into due to the design of the door lock's (you can buy plates to go aroung the lock to stop people prying in but they are ugly)...Somebody broke the rear side window but I have 2 alarm's and they didn't take anything and now i just have a different coloured side glass as national windscreen's would have to order green tint glass and couldn't give me a timescale!!!  Any body know how easy these are to change on a mk3 3door???

I've never had a car broken into despite living in a couple of dodgy areas in Nottingham, Leeds and London, and that includes a Mk2 GL (had nothing worth stealing though), Mk3 16v and a Mk2 16v (although someone did try, but didn't get far).

But my brother just had his Mk3 Astra broken into and the stereo stolen, they just pushed the front window down and grabbed the stereo. But there wasn't an alarm on the car, and he did leave the front on the stereo.

I think it's just a case of if they see something worth stealing, and there's no one around, they'll give it a go.
But yeah the penalties for stealing are absolute rubbish, certainly not enough of a deterant.
