PAS pulley?
« on: 22 January 2007, 20:36 »
Hi,

I've got a 1985 Golf 1.8 GTi. I have recently fitted PAS to it which I took from a 1990 16v. Everything went on like a dream until I got to the pulleys.
The crank pulley from the donor car is bigger than the original and it touches the water pump pulley and it also has a insert pulley which sticks out 2 Cm's out and the PAS belt doesn't fit.

I have been in to my local VW and everything has been checked and is OK apart from the crank pulleys as there are different types and are all expensive.

My question is, is the PAS pulley for a 1985 GTi a double pulley or does it too have an insert pulley.
From looking at the VW system the pulley I need has a reference number of - 026105243C, the non PAS which I already have is the same digits but ends in B.

Please help I need to get back in the car and off my bike!!!

Ah, things not going exactly to plan. I have spent hours at the local VW parts dept and they are now not so confident as to what pulley to sell me because if it is wrong I'm gonna be stuck with it because it is classed as a specialist part.

So, it now looks like that the water pump pulley needs changing as well as the crank pulley, so if anyone has any part numbers or if anyone can confirm that I can use the PAS versions for the 1985 GTi for the 1991 GTi it was taken from then I would be greatful.

I wish I had kept with manuel, but hey it was something else to do to my car on dark winters nights!
