holding back 2.0 8v mk3

Just changed the cam belt and all marks are 100% cleaned out throttle body while at it as had idle probs and it was caked in gunk,cleaned isv also.

All abck together,starts and idles perfect, drives perfect at low throttle but now over 50 % throttle it holds back bad.  It is crap on fuel and was before (25mpg) so thought id change the lambda as have spare but yet had chance to do so, may now change engine temp sensor also, any other ideas?? is the ignition ecu controlled?? will timing light show up any issues?? if so where do you find timing marks ??

Its the missis car and she is not happy my skyline gets the same mpg and hers is as fast as a honda melody currently

i know the timing is a git to do yourself.  i had mine done at the garage coz the marks are apparently hard to find (thats what my dada said but he prob just didnt want do it)  my timing was set at 33 when it was supposed to 6!!!!  was a miricle it started at all.  anyway i found the sympoms of bad timing in  my case were :- reaching the rev limiter at 5000 rpm and cutting out.  worth getting checked out.  also my mpg was around 23 its now 31 which is good as i have lead foot syndrome

If the timing was out (even the belt by 1 tooth) it would hold back and wouldn't rev above 5000rpm..I do know the timing mark's are difficult to see as you have to remove the green cap for the box and peek at the flywheel (which is fitted to the outside of the clutch)....Most function's are ecu controlled and if the temp sensor was at fault it would either idle crap when cold or run crap when warm. it could be the ecu or fuel pump relay's as these fail..My advice is check the timing first and then check out the thread on here   http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2080.0 as mk3's have many common problem's
