GTI is broken
« on: 19 January 2007, 18:31 »
GTI has developed an intermittent fault - exhaust light comes on and MFD says "EPC" but strangely the EPC light doesn't come on.

Anyhoo, put it into the garage today and they tell me it needs, and I quote:

"a new rear lambda probe" and " a new camshaft valve".  and

It's to back in on Wednesday as they have to order the parts.

Anyone had anything similar happen?

I've had continual problems with this exhaust light coming on (and staying on) and been told various reasons why its happening. Been into the dealers on no less than 8 occassions with this. They've reset it a few times, changed the cooling fan, changed some unit that was at 'fault', told me I was overfilling the tank, putting the wrong kind of juice in it and it just kept comming back on. The most recent solution has been to remap the ECU and after a week it hasnt returned so far.

I'd get a second opinion if I were you Cat.

My previous car (54 plate Golf Mk V 1.9 SE TDI) developed a similar fault, and the dealer fixed it quick smart - no hassle.

Hopefully the GTI will get the same treatment.  She's going in on Wednesay so will provide an update later this week.

After all, there are things we know we don't know, and there are things we don't know we don't know.  I want all you to know about the known unknowns and not be surprised by the unknown unknowns.

  Yeah I'm not surprised.  I'm paraphrasing a Donald Rumsfeld quote when he was talking about (I think) some NASA thing.

Maybe red GTis are fated. Ours now has an 'oil sensor - garage' warning on startup. The dealer couldn't find the fault in Friday. Its back for 2 days this Thurs/Fri. Luckily it drives just fine. Dealer told me they have to go through a sequence of checks given to them by VW or they won't get paid for the warranty work - which takes at least a day !?

What's the reckoning that if they replaced the oil pressure sensor, that the problem would be solved
