Scottish newbie

Hello all,

Just joined up today after some googling to find advice on brakes and suspension matters.  Found the guest-searchable posts really helpful, friendly and informative.  Also particularly impressed that the RSS feed seems to be registered in my Google desktop already, neat!

My wife runs a 2002 Mk4 Anniversary GTi (Tdi 150 version), it's our main family car because our other car is an ... Elise :-)  I am a regular participant & founder member of the Scottish Elises group, who have a yahoogroup and online BBS much like this one.  See http://www.scottishelises.com.  So I was pleased to see the mod's intro re: this being a friendly forum etc, that's just what SE is like too.

The SE group has helped me keep my Elise on the road for over 7 years, and now that we've decided to hang onto the Golf for a couple more years too, I hope this forum can help in that same way...things like brakes are starting to wear out, and advice on parts, how to fit, pitfalls to avoid, and maybe the odd tweak here and there will be very welcome!

Likewise, as long term owners of the 25th Anni Tdi, we'll be happy to contribute whatever knowledge or opinion we can to help other would-be or current owners.  My main contribution to the SE group has been route-planning for days out / road runs, and a bit of events organisation.  And of course the odd dumb post about a completely obvious issue, as I'm not that mechanically minded really (but I'm keen to learn!)

Thanks!  I submitted these, amongst others, for the 2007 Scottish Elises Calendar but they never made the cut...the standard was *really* high :-)

Y'know, I already have!  It's great, I am so chuffed that there are other online car communities as tuned in and as friendly as the Scottish Elises lot.

The passion, enthusiasm and initiative you guys are showing for the Golf (and Bora/Jetta I guess!) is quite something.  VW did great inventing the hot hatch with the Mk1, I realise the Mk4 lost a bit of the shine but that just opened the opportunities for aftermarket guys and enthusiasts to make it what it should have been.  Seems some are succeeding, indeed!

Stay tuned for a steady stream of future inane inquiries about how to keep our 55k miler oil burner on the road and within a budget :-)
