Messed up central locking
« on: 17 January 2007, 09:51 »
Hi all,

We've just bought a 5dr Golf GT TDi (110) on an 'S' plate and there are a couple of faults with it (That'll be why it was so cheap then !)  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !

1. The rear passenger side door will not open.  The central locking unlocks the door but I cannot open the door.  So two things really.
A - How do I open the door in the first place ? and
B - What do I have to do/change in order to make it work again.
This is the one I need to sort out quickly as we have 2 children and have to put one in the front seat but that has an airbag.  I'm going to go to a VW garage to turn it off.  Can this be done via the VAG COM ?

2. The remote locks and unlocks all of the 4 doors.  When you get in and use the lock button on the drivers side all the doors lock but then the front passenger door unlocks.  I can't understand it as it works fine on the remote.

3. A trivial one but one that I'll get sorted.  The boot lock has seized and won't open with the key or when the unlock button is pressed on the key fob.  The only way to unlock it is with the drivers side lock/unlock button.

Can anyone please help, escpecially with 1A !

Thanks,

Richie.

Sounds like the convenience unit is in a bit of a mess. First thing is to get vagcom on there and try clearing the codes and resetting everything. Hopefully that will clear most of the gripes.
Yes you can disable the airbags with vagcom, I haven't done it myself and I know you have to be very careful with certain part number controllers.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I've ordered a VAG COM cable from ebay.

Any idea on how to open the rear passenger door while it's locked shut ?

Richie.

i had that problem, all it was my "wire thing" dont know what its called, was hooked to the door card proply, he might of had the door card off to change speakers or the window regulator or sumit, and didnt know what he was doing and didnt clip it back on!

it would be a case of gettin the door card off which i doubt you will be able to do cause theres screws at the bottom.......

il have a look later and see cause its raiining quite bad now

also a possibility that you have faulty door modules.  the soldering in the modules is rather weak and breaks over time.

I think a couple of mine have that problem^^^^^^

I always seem to get a couple of door module faults. Everything seems to work so I ignore them.

your point (2) is the classic sign of a faulty door lock mechanism.

Thanks for the replies.

I've been reading the vwvortex forum on the door lock mechanism DIY thread and other issues with door locks.  I'm hoping that it is the CCM that is faulty, 'cos if not I've got to take 2 door cards off to change the locks (Rear passenger side as noted in 1 and front passenger as noted in 2).

Richandhazel, are you able to scan for fault codes against the CCM with the shareware version of VAG-COM ?  I don't know the limitations.

Also, is there any online help on which contacts to solder if it is the door lock ?  I've read through how to take off the door card but not how to re-solder the contacts.

Thanks,

Richie.

I don't know to be honest. My copy is registered so I have never tried with the unregistered version. I would have thought the unregistered version would still pull up the fault codes.
