BIG dilemer, opinions needed please.
« on: 16 January 2007, 12:31 »
ok i will paint the picture,

i have a really good grey f reg minimal spec (no power steering, lec windows or big bumpers, however i love the small ones) mk2 8v gti no rust mechanically sound, no expense spared for any problem big or small even if it breaks my small budget. she is my baby. i have a polished and ported head with new headset and fast road cam ready to go in and a 2e bottom end that is sitting on my work bench that i was going to mate with it and drop it in.

i have just won an auction for a m reg golf 8v gti on ebay for £335 with a seized engine planning to put the 2e bottom end to this instead and let the wife drive it.

since then i have had a change of heart...................

i wanna keep the 2e for my mk2 (call me selfish) and put my pb block in the mk3 as it is only the wifes.

what would you do if you were in my boots??

no dilema at all mate....

you keep the 2e bottom end, and stick the 1.8 in the mk3,

IMHO unless your wife is proper in the know about those things, she wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the 1.8 and the 2, so in theory its wasted on her, u should keep it to take full advantage of it

Also it will devalue the Mk3 and make it difficult to sell on.

dont tell the insurance and it shouldnt devalue the mk3 that much if its a good 1.8

Well I doubt he'll see his money back. Or even be able to sell it at all and end up scrapping it or selling it off in bits.
